SAINT LAURENT Spring/Summer 2013

Hedi Slimane, who, in the past designed for the YSL men’s collection, debuted his collection for Women’s Saint Laurent, R-T-W during Paris fashion week. To know that Betty Catroux, longtime muse to Yves himself, was “delirious with delight, proclaiming Slimane the savior for all womankind” is definitely a good sign and great way to introduce this collection and kick-off what I see as beautiful union between the designer and brand.

The Spring/Summer collection for the newly titled Saint Laurent features Slimane’s iconic rocker chic look with gothic meets American-Western Parisian it-girl suave (think MK & A-Olsen, at their best, in Paris, during fashion week, in everything Saint Laurent) with floor-sweeping, full-sleeve dresses, military inspired jackets and slim tapered trousers and skinny pants. Cleanly cut lines accompanied by luxe textures and lots of leathers played uniform to models who’s faces hid behind (next seasons definite it-accessory) wide-brimmed hats, a signature of the collections style. The hats weren’t the only accessory to talk about, the over-sized waist belts and gold necklaces and cuffs were all under deeply focused eyes.

Can we also talk about the dresses for a second? I’d have to say that Saint Laurent’s Spring/Summer 2013 collection has one of the most sexy yet glamorously made selection of black dresses that I have seen for the season. I loved all the variations and again, accessories that took pieces to entire other levels. The over-sized silhouettes played the perfect battle against the sheer parts of the garments as well as the sexy and bare-all exposed slits and cut-outs, all done tastefully and all coming together in great harmony. Bravo Monsieur Slimane!
